Weird but True

    Weird but true facts
by Dillon and Aidan of 5B

One month ago we started a book called Weird But True 4.  The book is about really weird facts almost every day we read a couple of facts.  They are so weird!

Some of the best facts are:  Some female fish can turn into male fish, some sand tunes can bark, in some parts of Asia you can buy watermelons that are shaped like pyramids!

There are so many outrageously cool and weird facts.
If you like our blog and want to read or learn more come to us.  Or find 1 of the Weird But True Books and read away because you’ll love it.  We will upload more weird facts later!

Apology Poems

Written by: Lila

In  5B we have  been working  on  apology  poems. Don’t worry, no one did anything bad. An apology poem is when  you apologize for something you  wouldn’t think to apologize for. For instance, you  could apologize to french fries for eating them, or you could say sorry to an eraser for grinding it up. Every student wrote 2-4 different poems. We typed them up, decorated them, and glued them into our anthology. They were so much fun!

Field Trips

FIELD TRIPS
By : Katie and Kaleigh

CLAYMO RETREAT
We have the opportunity  to go on 6 trips a year! My favorite field trip was the Claymo leadership trip because we got to become a leader and discover being the oldest in the school! And that’s the new step in life! Also we shared how to be a leader. It was a really nice day outside that time. Wish we could go back!

BOTANICAL GARDENS
My favorite field trip was probably the Botanical Gardens, because of all the drawing/sketching that we did of the beautiful landscape. Even though I live right next to the Botanical Gardens, and go there a lot. It was great to just quietly enjoy it. What do you guys think? What is your favorite? Was is Cahokia mounds or the ski trip?

Mapmaking

Social Studies has returned to 5B.  This unit is focused on early colonial days in North America.  Everyone remember the name of the 13 Original Colonies?

In preparation for our colony simulation, students are creating maps of mythical lands, identifying and labeling various landforms and answering challenging geography questions.  It's been fun to explore the lands of Odensa and Washaho.  Stay tuned for our student-created lands next week!

New Year's Resolutions

At the start of a new year, many of us think setting new resolutions.

We have been doing this sort of thinking in 5B and have committed to a whole sort of resolutions for the year 2013.  Our resolutions range from academic goals, fitness goals, hobby goals and goals to break some bad habits.  Wish us luck and support us as you can in making these resolutions a reality!
