When Presidents Lie

When Presidents Lie
By Eric Alterman
Post by Migl aka Miguel

In this book, Eric Alterman explains deeply why presidents lie, when presidents lie, how they lie, what they lie, and more.  It includes the Yalta Conference, Cuban Missile Crisis, the Gulf of Tonkin, the Iran-Contra Scandal, and Bush with the post truth presidency.  I’d rate this book 3.7 out of 5 stars.  Sometimes, the chapters got boring.  But mostly, it was great!!!
I would recommend reading this book in middle school, because it is pretty complicated.  But my favorite chapter was the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Well, if I went to detail with that, uh, you’d want to read it NOW!!!

Would you read this book?  Do you like history and politics?

Social Studies: Revolutionary War

I am in the Parliament!!!Screen Shot 2015-04-14 at 17.34.39.jpg
         By Tom
1st of all this is kind of like a simulation thing about the events leading up to the american revolution and the revolution itself we are doing in class so I didn’t really get into any government things. We picked our roles out of a box thing and I got a slip that said parliament member. There are only 1 of those in a box of about 25 roles so it was about a four percent that I would get that (theoretically).
So I get to sit in the back of the class with my royal assistant (Jimmy) and the tax collector (Aaron). We are the only people with the government, but we have more people on our side than those dirty patriots (They are not dirty just trying to get into character).
Now my question is Should I get a powder wig first? Or a neck tutu? Tough, right.

Social Studies: Colony Crazy

Colony Crazy!!!!!
                  By Jimmy

In social studies we are doing colonists unit .It is very fun so far. What we have to do is:
-Find a colony type
-Make a colony name
-Make a colony flag
-And so on!

My group is called the golden owls! And my fellow colonists are Jean,Tudor and Sofi. Our colony group is a private company colony and our name is the GOLDEN OWLS!!!!!!Right now we are working on our flag. What we are doing is in the middle we have our owl and then we split the rest of the flag into four parts for our own drawings.

What would you make your colony like?

Social Studies: Colonies

Social Studies
By Miguel
Today, during social studies, we have learned about the southern colonies from the original 13 colonies.  The climate down south was warm and good for farming.  In fact, practically everyone got their money from farming.
We also continued the process of making the flags for our colonies.  We are split into colonies, and the point is to be the wealthiest colony by the end of the simulation.  People also have certain jobs, such as a governor, or a trader, but we haven’t chosen those yet.

Who is in your colony?  What is one interesting fact you learned about the southern colonies?

Social Studies: Trading Cards

Explore and ship trading cards
                By:Izzy
In fifth grade we do explorers, ships or past event projects.  During the process of these we work on trading cards.  On one side you need to write facts and information that is true about your topic. Yet on the other side it is completely different because you need to draw an illustration of what you're doing and put the name of the picture on the side or on top of the card and it needs to have.  Then when everyone started getting finished our teacher or Mrs.Barnes  made a timeline and asked us when our topic made a big change for the world then she hung them hung them on the timeline.  Will you make a trading card soon?

Social Studies: Colonies and Flags

Colonies and Flags
By: Kate
In social studies we are now in our colonies which are groups of four to five people. We had to come up with names, mine is ‘The Religious Rebels’ because my colony is a religious freedom colony.
After we chose our colony type and our colony name we have to create a colony flag. My colony flag has religious symbols in the corners such as a cross, a jewish star and a Yin Yang. In the middle it has a backwards R and a regular R ( Religious Rebels).
What is the name of your colony?

Social Studies: Colonies

We got are Colonies! by Soren

Today we got our colonies/groups. I am happy with my group because they are all my friends and we work well together. I already told my colonist  that we would do a blog post every other day so that we could get extra points if blog post and comments count. I am going to do extra because Mrs.Barnes said that you should get as much wealth points as you can.
I think that it will be fun to be in a colonist simulation because last year in 4th grade we did a simulation going on the Oregon trail.I also think that it might be hard because the Oregon simulation was hard at sometimes, plus if you lost health points than you might not be able to buy something that you need.

SS: New England Colonies

New England Colonies
by Biruk

In 1628 a small group of settlers arrived in North America. They had a charter, or official paper, from the king of England. It gave the settlers permission to start a colony in New England. There, they built a village called Salem.
Like the Pilgrims, these settlers came to New England to practice their religious beliefs.  They also came to start farms and businesses.  Unlike the Pilgrims, the new settlers did not want to break away from the Church of England. They wanted to change some religious practice to make the church more "pure". For this reason, they were called Puritans.

Social Studies: Colonies

Social Studies
                   By Tom
Today we had our 1st social studies class of the year(by year I mean 2015)! It was about our new unit about colonies(USA colonies). In addition to learning about the colonies we will be doing a simulation of what it would be like settling in the new world(similar yet very different to our pioneer simulation in 4th grade).
Today we did 2 little tests/surveys for the beginning of unit, One was what you already know and the other was a opinion survey thing. After we got finished with that Mrs.Barnes explained the simulation and told us we would be getting a diary/journal to write in along the way as there character/person and we get to stain it!
