STEM Day Robo Hounds

We had a great time today at STEM day. One of our favorite stations was the robotics station. We got to meet some of the Robo hounds (members of robotics club) and they showed us their robot that they made for two   this year. It costed four thousand dollars to create. The coolest thing the robot could do was shoot balls into a hoop. They went to Florida for one of their . One of their main sponsors is Bowing. While he was explaining this each person got to try to shoot a ball in the hoop using a controller (controls the robot).

Each cost 5,000 dollars to participate in. Bowing and the Robo Hounds other sponsors pay for the robot and the cost to get in the competitions. At the competition in Florida the Robo Hounds took 6th place. That is pretty good. At the competition in St. Louis they placed 4th. Then the controller person from the Robo Hounds started throwing the balls at us and we tried to catch them. We had a ton of fun at this activity. Does this sound like fun to you?

100 Word Challenge

I was starting to get bored. I have been dancing all day but I guess that is what happens when your the best dancer in the world. I don’t even get paid to do this. Yes this is my job dancing and signing autographs all day. While I was telling you this a little kid came up to me and challenged me to a dance. I started dancing, I didn’t do my best because he was a little kid and I wanted to give him a chance. He is celebrating. He beat me. How could something so tiny beat me?

P.E.

  This is P.E. Today in P.E. everyone is bowling. This is not a picture of us. These are pictures of second graders. If you notice in the picture the head pin is a different colors. The second through kindergartners get to scoot up when they bowl. The people that are sitting on the mats are supposed to stop the ball if it is going in to another lane. Also they have to retrieve the ball when the person that is bowling bowls. Once the bowler bowls twice or gets a strike has to go and set the pins back up. There are pieces of tape that tells you wear to put the pins.

        In P.E. the third through fifth graders usually do different things then the second through kindergarten. For example the fifth through third graders have to do pacer. The second through kindergarten don't. Fifth through third graders have to do push ups and sit ups. Second through kindergarten don't. 

Math: Fraction Action, Fraction Friction

In math class we have been playing a game recently called Fraction Action Fraction Friction. It's a real tongue twister. Anyway the game helps us work on are fraction adding. When you play the objective is to get to 2 without going over. How you play is you each  pull a card and set it face front. Then when everybody has pulled a card you can either say fraction action which means you pull another card or you can say fraction friction which means that you don't want to pull another card because you might go over 2. You keep doing this until everyone has said fraction friction over gone over 2. Here's the deal you have to keep every card except the first one a secret. That is why I Ethan thinks it's fun but Wilson likes it because He never knows what he's going to get.

Kindergarten Buddies

 Kindergarten Buddies

In fifth grade we have something called kindergarten buddies. With kindergarten buddies the teachers select a fifth grader to go with a kindergartener. We do this in Mrs.Sieve’s classroom. Once a week we go down to their classroom and help them find books to read in the morning. We also once a month go and read a few books to them. If you ever have the chance to watch them read or right you should, because they are so cute.

Last time we were with them we got to teach them about the CLAYMO promise. The CLAYMO promise stands for care lots about yourself and many others. The real CLAYMO promise is I promise to take good care of myself all the people around me and all the things around me. We also got to show them where they would be going the next day for the first CLAYMO lesson.

The Glenridge fifth grade class of 2023 went to Tilles park on a Claymo retreat on August 27 2015. We went on this trip to help us build team work, confidence, and leadership skills. We did a lot of activities one of our favorites was a game called Steal The Ball. In this game you have to run around and take balls out of peoples hula hoops, but while your gone people can take balls out of your hula hoop. The person with the most balls at the end of the game wins. We had alot of fun at this retreat but we loved Steal The Ball.
