100 Word Challenge: Jean

My Adventure
                     By: Jean
One day I went on an adventure.  It was more like a trip.  It would be the awesomest trip ever!  The place I went to was a water park.  It had water slides and some big rafts so you can go with your friends and there was a hot tub and a pool.  It was so fun and there was not high limit or age limit to go in the hot tub.  There was also balance beam and if you fall you fall in the water and there were things to balance on, it was awesome!

100 Word Challenge: Jean

When I was in my house then pipes started leaking.  But it was really weird because it was leaking green goo.  It was so weird but I didn't care but soon the house was full of the goo.  I still did not care so I just swam carefully around until all of a sudden I heard a weird sound, it sounded like a dying horse.  I did not care but then I heard it a gain and it started getting really annoying.  Then a horse head floated up and I thought ohhh I know I can through it at my sister.

100 Word Challenge: Jean

We left on a plane so we could go on vacation.  We were going to Norway to visit my grandma.  Then when I looked out of the plane window there was something on it, it looked like a spot of green goo.  But then I realised it was a dead frog that some how splattered on the window.  I was grossed out I was about to throw up but someone did before I could.  It landed right on the floor next to me so when I saw that, it made me throw up.  It was horrible!

Reading Ladder: Dangerous Animals

Non Fiction Reading Ladder
Dangerous Animals
                    By Jean and Chanel

#1  Life in the Rain Forest.  Author: Lucy Baker-  This book has some facts about dangerous animals and also other animals that arn’t dangerous.  So it would not have been my first choice to read for this topic.  There are also pictures of the animals.
#2  Poisonous Snakes.  Author: Seymour  Simon- 74.  This book is kinda long but on each pages there is a few sentences but some have full pages.  So it probably would not take you too long to read it.  The pictures on this are also good in my opinion.
#3  Big Cats.  Author: Seymour Simon- 39 pages.  This book is pretty short but it has lots of facts about BIG cats like Lions.  I would read definitely read this book if I wanted to find out more about BIG cats.  I also like the pictures because some are cute and some are funny.
4 Shark Attack.  Author: Tom Jackson- 32pg.  This book I find interesting because there are people that survived, interesting and funny facts about sharks.  This book is pretty simple to read and there are many pictures.  There were some facts that I did know and some I did not know.
5 Jaguars.  Author: Julie Murray- 24 pages.  This book is a short easy book to read.  There are pictures one  page and words one the other page so it is like a pattern. The pictures match the words so it is not like about what they eat then it shows a picture of a jaguar in a tree.
6 Dinosaur.  Author: Penelope Arlon- 19 pages.  This book I think is a really good kids book because there is a rime on the first page and fold out pages and fun stuff like that.  There is are fun facts not scary facts and not too many words.
7 The Great Monster Hunt.  Author: Norbert Landa- 24 pages.  This book is actually not a nonfiction book.  It is about a duck that thinks there is a monster under her bed so she yells for help then everyone comes animals to help duck.  But we did not know that it was a story like that.

We arranged this chart on a scale of 1-7 one being the hardest seven being the easiest.

OLW: Confidence

Confidence
                             By Jean

We all had to come up with a word.  But the word would have to be a goal.  We called it the OLW (One Little Word).  My One Little Word is Confidence.  Others choose words like concentrate, participate and stuff like that.  Confidence is my OLW because you need confidence to be happy in life.  I also chose it because if you don’t have confidence you won't get far in life and you won't be successful in life either.
After you chose your OLW you need to design it.  You could make the word out of the same but littler word.  You could have the word with other word with the same meaning and put those together in diagonal lines, straight lines or how ever you want it.  Or you could just design it with dots or zigzags and stuff like that.  So what would your OLW be?

Science: Ramps and Spheres

  Ramps and Spheres
                            By Jean

In science we are testing force and motion.  We just finished testing pendulums so now we are testing spheres and ramps.  The materials you have are three different size spears. One dig spear, one little spear and, one big spear.  We also had a ramp and a runway. We tapped the ramp and the runway together at the bottom.  We also made sure that the runway was not over any bumps or cracks so it would not mess up our experiment.  We had a graph that had spaces for the three trials and the average.  We had two of those graphs, one for the medium ball at the two mark the four mark and at the size mark.  The second graph was for the big ball the medium ball and the small ball and they all started at the three mark.
The marks are on the ramp so we know where to let the ball go but when we do that we can not put pressure on the spear.  We have a measuring tape next to the runway so we can track how long the ball goes in two seconds.  But sometimes it can be really hard to do all this stuff because there might be some dents in the runway or your ball might stop allof a sudden (which happened to me) or you could just have a human airor.
So now that you have an idea do you, think you would want to do this experiment?

Social Studies: Stepping Stones

Social Studies Stepping Stones
                    By Jean

I am choosing to share this story with you so you guys will know what this activity is like when you start.  My favorite activity was the fourth activity because everyone got so excited and I learned new things.
In social studies we started bluffs.  Bluffs is when you have a table pod of four or five and every one has to do a bunch of activities in front of the class.
The first we did an activity that is kind of like charades, we have to go up in front of the class and act out something like playing volleyball but you can not talk or have a persone do it with you during the activity.  I acted out playing volley ball.
The second activity was the secret words.  In this activity our teacher gave us a word and we had to put it in a story and try to make it long so no one could guess the word because the longer the story is the harder it is for people to guess the word.  For each pod you trick you get ten points and for each pod that does get the answer right gets five points.  My word was bread.
The third activity was the bluffs.  In this activity our table pod went out in the hall and we each had to pick a card and one card would have the real meaning of the card and all the rest had to make up a fake meaning of the word and the other table pods would try to guess the person with the secret word.  For each person we tricked we get ten points for our pod but the people who ges right gets five points for their pod.  I was the one that picked the card with the true meaning of the word.
The fourth/last activity was to teach the class how to make something.  It had to be at least one through three minutes long.  After the speeches people decided if we had an intro, theses, steps, and a conclusion.  If we had all that then we got full points.  I taught people how to make a fortune teller.
What activity do you think you would like?

Writing: The Broken Window

This is a story that I thought funny and enjoyable to read.  So that is why I am sharing this story with all you.  I enjoy it because it is a story I will never forget.

The Broken Window
                                           By Jean

One day I was playing tennis against the wall.  It was really fun.  I was alone outside because my sister was watching T.V. or sleeping, my brother was most likely playing video games and my mom, well you know how moms are wanting to sleep in as long as they can, but surprisingly she was up.
Anyway, I was having fun playing because I could use some exercise.  But it was really annoying when the ball kept going under the car or in the street.  But it was Ok because it was really fun.
The ball hit the windows a few times but thankfully they did not break.  That was a relief for me because I would feel so guilty if I broke the window.  Sometimes I hit the ball hard and it went over my head.  Others were soft and bounced right back to me, and some were just right and I could hit it again without it dropping.
But then I hit the ball wacky, wild and out of control, and in those few seconds when the ball was in the air I knew what was going to happen like if it were in slow-motion.  Then crash!  It happened once again: a broken window.
I started desperately to pick up the pieces but then I got cut on the foot.  I was even more nervous now because I cut my foot and it might get infected from the dirt on the ground.
Now I was scared, questions were flashing through my head. Will I get in trouble?  What will my mom think?  Will I be grounded? Or will she understand that it was an accident?
I was running towards the door, my hands trembling when I was opening the doors.  I had to tell my mom.
    "Mom." I said.
    "Yes." she said back.
"I broke the window again." I said.  My voice was trembling.  I was relieved when I got the response.
"I understand that it was an accident so it is Ok."
"I am really sorry." I said
    "It's OK." My mom said.
And it all turned out being just fine in the end.
Did you ever break a window?

Claymo Today

  CLAYMO
                        By Jean

On Oct 9, 2014 we had Claymo.  Claymo is when we get together in certain groups every once in a while  and we learn new ways to be kind and less disruptive in fun cool ways.
Today my made a poster on playground rule.  But the one thing I really liked and want to focus on is everyones ideas.  People wrote things like  let everyone play, include others, be kind etc.  Others wrote things like two finger tap/touch, self control, no shoving,  and things like that.  They had really good ideas and good hand writing.  And they did not get off topic.  They also had really cute drawings of people going down a slide and playing together and stuff like that.  That is why I like my Claymo group.

Personification Poetry

Personification Poem

I wrote a personification poem about the sun.  I think this poem is special because we need the sun to survive.  I enjoy it because the picture are funny and I like the part when I explained what the sun and planets do together.
The Sun Poem
                    By Jean
    I am the Sun.
I work all day and all night.
I start to sweat from working.
I work with all the other planets.
I know one day I am going to blow up.
Literally BLOW UP!
I work with Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus,
unless you count Pluto because he is a dwarf planet.
We have the weirdest job.  We basically play Ring Around the Rosy.
Does not sound very fun right especially when you do it everyday and night.
I selected this poem because I thought it was one of my best poems.  The part i liked best was when the sun was was so tired  that he would blow up.  I am proud of it because  I really tried to make it the best it
can be.

Saving Fred

Saving Fred
                          By Jean

Saving Fred happened in Life Skills on September 11, 2014.  We worked together with the people that sit by us.  I worked with Tudor, Ariana and Asher.  We had a cup which was the boat, we had a gummy worm which was Fred and we had a Lifesaver gummy which was Fred’s floaty.  We also had toothpicks which were ores.
We had to get Fred on the boat (the cup) with his floaty (the Lifesaver gummy) around him without impaling or killing/murdering him.  The same with his floaty.  And we can not break the ore either.
We did it by having Ariana, Asher and Tudor put ther ore in the middle of the Lifesaver and stretch it.  I balanced Fred on the ore and stuck him through the Lifesaver.  Then we moved him to the top of the boat.  We accomplished the quest! But the hardest part was not eating Fred or the ore...

Claymo: Inside, Outside Circle

Inside Outside Circle
        By Jean and Asher
On August 28th, the 5th grade had their Claymo Retreat at Tilles Park.
We did  the inside outside circle  with Mrs. Spann  and a visiting teacher.  We did it so we could learn how it felt to be left out of the circle.  And so we won't leave people out.  The reason we chose this activity is because  the activity was cool, interesting and plus we both agreed on it.
We felt like we learned how to be more responsible.  We also felt like we will do better being a Claymo leader.  And felt like we would now how to help the little kids in Claymo also.
