100WC

When the connection broke I was devastated, I was talking to my mom. She was on a business trip and I urgently needed to talk to her about something I could not talk to with my dad. “Dad the connection broke again!” I shouted. As I waited for the connection to get back on I wandered around the attic floor where I pretty much did everything  “ Dinner's ready come.” My dad yelled up. I trudged down the stairs and ate dinner. Then I took a shower brushed my teeth then plopped into bed then, finally the connection came back on.

Planetarium By: Iris

On February 29th 2016 the Glenridge fifth graders went to the St. Louis Planetarium, where we got to watch the show. The show was very cool and interesting we learned about the constellations, mostly the winter ones because it’s  winter. And we also learned some star names. Also if you have read Harry Potter then you would like to know that J.K. Rowling based some names of stars, like Sirius is part of Canis Minor. The small dog and yes that is why Sirius turns into a dog. Before we also had time to explore and you could make a rover move!

Colony fates By Iris

Colony fates
By: Iris

In fifth grade we are doing a colonization unit in social studies. We are doing things called rounds where we pick a Weather fate, a Farming fate, a Hunting fate, and a Fishing fate, and a general welfare. The weather fate tells you if you have good or bad weather. The farming fate tells you how much food units you get and if you has problems. And the Hunting fate tells you how many food units you get or the problem. the Fishing tells you the exact same thing. And the general welfare is the overall card it is not very nice most of the time. It was only nice once or twice. But you really need luck.

The girl By: Iris

Her mouth was wide open and I could tell, she was shocked to see her. The girl standing across from her, she looked just like her. The shocked girl’s name was Delta. She had chocolate brown hair and emerald eyes. The girl across was the same the only difference was Delta had turquoise highlights. Then I realized something, the girl was Delta’s twin. That could be the only explanation. Then the mom came in. She was confused for 1 second, then her face flushed in understanding. “Roxy?” She asked. The girl replied grinning “Yes, it’s me and I’m back mom.”

6th Grade Orientation

6th Grade Orientation
By Iris and Ava

On January 28th 2016, most of the 5th graders from the Clayton school district, went to Wydown Middle school, because there was a 6th grade orientation to get 5th graders ready to go to Middle School. At the beginning of the orientation when the parents and students walked in some people from Wydown passed out a sheet of paper telling which group you were in. When the orientation started the Middle school principal made an announcement, and greeting students when everybody was situated. She introduced some of the Wydown middle school teachers. After a little bit, three 6th grade kids, that talked about middle school. The first person was really humorous, and exaggerated a lot in an HILARIOUS sort of way. The second person was a girl named Sahi. She is one of my best friends (Ava’s) she sounded pretty good. The third person was a girl named Gabriella. She did pretty good too. After all of the announcements, we were dismissed to leave and go to our groups. Ava and I (Iris) were in the same group: Group D.
My friend Claudia and Seraphina were in the same group: Group A. There were some 8th graders leading the groups. We first went to math.
In math, we found out STARTLING news. We. Had. Homework. on. The. Weekends. Inside, Iris and I ‘s (Ava) heads we were screaming. As you could have probably seen, we do not like math that much, we like simple things in math, but still.

After the Math discussion, we went to Elective Choices and we got to choose which electives we were thinking about doing in middle school. Iris chose drama and music. I chose (Ava) art and music.

After Electives, we went to Social Studies, where they did an AMAZING skit about what we were going to do in that year of middle school. Ava and I (Iris) were literally laughing so hard that Ava got the hiccups.

After Social Studies, we went to Literacy. were they showed us a video, were 6th graders talked about fun things to do in Literacy. I could tell that Ava was excited to do this because she loves to read and write.

After Literacy, we went to Science, were we found out that we were going to go to a fun field trips. Where we get to try to find FOSSILS! We both thought that it was going to be cool and interesting.

After science, we went to Language Arts. There was an option between French and or Spanish. Iris is thinking about doing French, and I (Ava) am thinking about doing spanish, just because I already know how to talk in spanish, because all of the 1st grade students, through 5th grade students, learn the language.
After the tour of Wydown, everybody went home, Ava and I thought that it would be a little bit scary, but we also thought that it could be fun.

Hidden Valley By Iris

The Wonderful Ski Trip Of Clayton
By: Iris

This Thursday the Clayton School District Fifth Graders went to Hidden Valley to Ski. The line for the equipment was very long it took forever for the me to get my skis and go. When I finally got out there I went through all the stations. My favorite was the last one where we went around the cones. My least favorite was the side step station because there was someone in front of me who was not side stepping but stepping on everybody’s skis stepping. And also it just took forever to get to the top because their was so many cones we had to sidestep past. But once I got past the stations I did the rope tow. The line takes forever to get past and once I got on it was really fun. The lift was super fun. But on one of the last times me and my friend Seraphina were going on the way there she fell, so I went to go help her, but at the same time I was unaware that there was a big pile up in front of me. Then when I turned around a girl who was trying to get into the line slipped and fell in front of me but I did not notice her so I slipped on her ski and feel down. Then I noticed the big pile up in front of me. There was a girl who was on the ground crying black tears because she had makeup on. And her friends were trying to help her but they were falling down and on top of that her ski’s were not coming off. And I couldn’t get up.  Then after that was over I went on the rope tow and fell off three times.

OLW Impossible

Impossible By: Iris

My word is impossible. I chose this word because sometimes I think or other people say that something is impossible, and most of the time I believe it. Impossible describes a big part of my life. Almost everything I do before I do it I think this will be impossible, but when I do it, it doesn't feel as impossible. And I want to feel that way for everything else.

Claymo Blog Entry

Claymo Blog
By: Iris

I have learned that I am good at telling the group what to do and making sure everybody is having fun. What I think is going well that people are cooperating together well, and I think Ben and I are good at making sure we are on time. What is still hard for me is getting the group under control and making sure they are following directions. I made sure that my that my group is understanding the big idea by telling them what to do when they got confused. My goals for the future are trying to get them under control and making sure that they do not play or talk when we are talking. I hope that we will have a fun time together.

100WC By:Iris

The first time I saw it I was so amazed, but as the days grew and the weeks past,I thought, how could something so tiny be so dangerous. It was a friday night I was sitting in my room staring at my diary when there was a pop, and there it was a small  antique bottle.I slowly got up,rubbed it clean…. then it came a small purple genie  he said “Hello,my name is Tiny,I’m a wish genie.I will grant  your wishes.”  First I was too stunned to move  then I started to wish away…….

100 Word Challenge By Iris

Once long ago, there was a girl staring at the ground, hands covered in blood. On the ground was a woman with beautiful bronze hair,it was her mother. She stared up and screamed,a scream so loud everybody was paralyzed. And she vowed to her self to kill the person who murdered her mother. She walked off snarling, screaming. Her long black hair trailing behind her.A couple years later when she was a young woman she avenged her mother, killing the murderer who killed her mother. Now only one person can find that person. That person is…...You.

Missing Them
By:Iris

It was a silent eerie night, everything was quiet, except for a small hill.At the top was a girl and her mother. The girl would not stop crying. Her mother tried to stop her from crying but her attempts failed. The girl had just lost her beloved father and grand parents. Her father a soldier died in the war.Her grandparents taken away by DEATH,(old age). She missed her father very much. And her grandparents missed by all who knew them. Her mother comforted her as much as possible, but it did not help at all.But at least she had her mother. Then with a swoosh of wind, she was just a memory.

Science: Astronomy Projects

Science Projects
By Iris and Ava

Our Science project is a project that you can make your own, There are different  types of projects that you can choose from a sheet of paper. We both chose ‘Alien’  but there were : Alien , Stars  Tour Guide, Brochure, Free choice, Eclipses, Astronomy history, Constellations & The Big Question!

For Ava’s Alien project I did a cute alien with puppy dog eyes. It looks like a blob of color in pink and blue. They can float with a body of a cloud. They live on Neptune too! I also made a brochure telling the reader what my alien looks like and what it is. My favorite part of my alien was probably the drawing in the brochure. They have cute little cloud houses that float because Neptune is made of gasses and ice. They are also best friends with iris’s alien the saturnians. And I think that it is pretty cool :) This is what Ava’s Alien looks like:

Iris’s aliens are called the Saturnians. They live on Saturn and they have a tail to swim through the gasy surface of Saturn. They can also fly with their beautimus wings though tough storms of Saturn. They are besties with the Bopz a.k.a. Ava’s  alien. They girls have 1 tail and 1 pair of wings. And the boys have 2 tails and also 1 pair of wings. They soar around the galaxy shipping packages and mailing letters to friends and visiting them. Here is what they look like:

Free choice:
Here is a free choice. In free choice, you can basically do whatever you would like to do! But it has to be based off of astronomy.

Tour Guide:
Here is a tour guide. In a tour guide, you can choose a couple planets and research and then  tie it all together in a brochure.

Brochure:
Here is a brochure. In a brochure, you can research a planet and put interesting facts about that planet into a brochure.

Musical Auditions

Musical Auditions
By:Iris and Ava
The Glenridge fifth grade is putting on a play, and the auditions are in the music room
courtesy of Mrs Williams. The fifth graders have a vocal audition and a memorization audition. The vocal auditions are for singing, and what you do in the vocal audition is you sing a small part from a song in the play. In the memorization audition you memorize a paragraph from a packet that the fifth graders have already gotten.

This is a fun way to practice music and drama because Glenridge does not have a drama club/class. The fifth graders are going to work very hard for this play to happen for you and Glenridge.

I wonder if the play will be a success?

Claymo: Superhero Shields

Claymo Retreat:  Superhero Shields
        By:Riley & Iris

Last week on Thursday August 27 at about 9:45 in Tilles Park, the Glenridge fifth graders did many teamwork related activities but the one that we're focusing on is the Super Hero Shields. This activity was done because to show us responsibility and power of becoming Claymo leaders,"with great power comes great responsibility"(Uncle Ben,Spider Man 1) These are some examples of Super Hero Shields.

Notice how the P has an extra line making it a R.  Therefore the P=Power and the R=Responsibility, which was the main lesson of this activity.
