Hidden Valley by Ben

HIDDEN VALLEY by Ben

On Thursday, January 14th 2016, my school went to Hidden Valley and it was awesome. I learned how to hockey stop. I also skied with a bunch of friends. Wilson brought a Camel Back. Wilson was one of the best ones out there. He stayed after and skied on almost all of the runs. I was going to stay longer, but my foot hurt.  I was trying to get on the bus but my dad kept talking to Wilson's mom so then I had to drive in my dad's car. They used fake snow but it tastes good.  I usually snowboard but I had to ski for some reason. Now I think I'm going to start skiing again. I started off skiing when I was younger. I wanted to snowboard but now I think I'm going to ski in St Louis and snowboard in Colorado.

Ski Trip by Edward

Ski Trip by Edward

We went on a ski trip and it was really fun. The only really boring thing was that people got to go on the ski lift but I did not. People Were sneaking on to the ski lift but I did not and that was good. The food was so good also it was horrible because we got one lazy piece of pizza and baby carrots that is not a lot of food for me. The ski trip was kinda dangerous people who did not know how to ski ran into people like me. It was my first time skiing but we went back so I could actually have more fun on the ski lift.

Hidden Valley Ski Trip

The Hidden Valley ski trip
                 by Robert

The hidden valley ski trip required perseverance  and resilience. Almost everyone fell and we all got up. The ski school was especially frustrating and in 45 minutes I was only at station 5. The lunch was only a pizza and a soda. The stations were especially frustrating and I wove through the station 7 instructor and I hit the sign with my hand.

The rope tow had to stop a few times because the people didn’t get out of the way. The ski lift had no safety bar so you held on for dear life. They gave you a tiny lunch so you were starving when you got on the bus. But it was really fun so i’m not complaining. Do you love skiing?

Hidden Valley was a new experience for me. I had never been skiing before. When we first got to Hidden Valley we watched a safety video. I payed close attention because it was my first time. When we finally got to the locker room I grabbed my size boots and they were broken so I went back to get new one’s that weren't broken. By the time I got back and got in line to get my ski’s the line was very long. By the time I finally got my ski’s some people were done with ski school.
I was super scared when I got on the snow. But after a couple of minutes I realized hey I’m not that bad at this. After that I whizzed through ski school until it was time for lunch.
Lunch was very small. We got a piece of pizza and the choice of a drink with baby carrots. I thought I was going to starve but thankfully my mom packed me a snack if I got hungry.
When I was done with lunch I went back on the slopes. I couldn’t believe it I was done with ski school. I went to the little lift to get practice going on the lift. I am scared of heights so even though it wasn’t that high I was still really scared. After one or two times I started to get the hang of it. I started to go to the rope tow. There was a super long line because everyone kept falling. I did that a couple of times and then I went on the mini lift to get some practice before I went on the big lift. I did that a lot and before I knew it all the schools had to leave. It was just me and my dad having fun skiing. My dad took me on the giant lift and I was super scared. I am afraid of heights and the lift kept stopping.
When we got to the top I decided to go on the less steep hill to start because it was my first time skiing. I tried to pizza stop on my way down like the people at ski school taught us but it wasn’t stopping me. I was going as fast as a rocket and I couldn’t stop finally the pizza stop slowed me down enough to where I could just fall back and I wouldn’t hurt myself. After that my dad taught me how to hockey stop I went on the little lift some more to practice. My dad told me I could go down one more hill and then we would have to leave. I chose the big hill. I started out really slow but then I went down like a pro using my new knowledge on how to hockey stop. We left when I got down the hill. That was the best field trip ever! I will never forget how much fun I had.

Thursday January 14 2016 Glenridge, Captain and Meramec went on a trip to Hidden Valley. Everyone was talking about the trip and what they were going to do and who they where gonna ski with and when we got there after along 30 minute bus drive everyone got up and started pushing there way to the door. When  the bus door opened everyone was out of the bus in a second. We lined up with are classes and walk to the building so we can watch the safety video. Captain was the first school in the room than glenridge and we walk in  a sat down with our friends and talk until the instructor got our attention and everyone looked at him. He told us what we were going to do and some main safety rules before we started the video. After the video the teachers walked around and gave us a clip to put on our zipper. Some people found that very challenging. Then they gave us are sticker with our ticket on it and it said if we can do the lift or not. Than we all went to another building to get our shoes and skis. Once we were done we went outside and started the first station to are ski school. The first station was how to put the skis on then you had to duck walk all the way to station 3 where you did turns and went down to station 4. At station 4 you practice stopping. Then at station 5 and 6 you practiced going in between cones going down to station 7 where you practice turning, then after 7 you could go ski. I went right to the first lift i sall and i started going up. Then i saw grant right behind me on the lift. once we got to the top we skied down together. We kept going on the same run until he met up with wilson. Me and christian and ezra were going on all the slopes that were open [ which was only 2 because the whole west side of the mountain was closed] When the unopened slopes open we went down those and skied all the blacks. Then are only way out to get back to the bus to leave stopped we were confused so we asked someone what happened. they said it shut down. so we went on the same slope 4 times are 5 time ezra accidentally went left off of the lift not right so we were stuck on the hardest steepest slope. Are first time all of us fell 2. We set a goal to run the slope without falling. it took us 3 or 4 runs to do it but we did. And are last run was are lucky one because right after the lift to get back to the bus was open. we took that lift and then we sale my grandpa come down the mountain. We tried to get his attention but he did not hear us so we had to go all the way back down on are way down we sale my grandpa on the lift going back so we quickly got on. We started screaming his name he turned around and said There you are. He waited for us on the top and we went to the lunchroom to get a snack. There hot chocolate was soooooo hot. So about ten minutes later we left to go home after are long and hard but fun adventure.

Hidden Valley Ski Trip

The Hidden Valley Ski Trip

On January 15, the students of Clayton School district were going on a ski trip, including me! After a 50 minute (and very hot) bus ride, we finally arrived. Everyone who was renting had to go in a massive line to get equipment. When I was in the line, I seriously were envying the people who brought their own equipment. I had to wait for about a hour and I was in the middle of the line. I wasn’t able to imagine how long I would have waited if I were at the back.

When the skis were too big for me, I had to go all the way back and get in line, this time lugging some heavy skis with me! I was extremely annoyed. When I finally got some skis that fit me, I had to go to ski school. At least I was able to ski a little bit as I passed all the stations. Then came the real fun, the slopes!

Since my parents signed that I was a beginner at first, we had to pay a extra $10 to change the paperwork because that was a mistake. I was able to go on the lifts because of that. The infuriating thing was, people who were begginer were sneaking on the lift. You aren’t allowed to do that! Because of that, many people fell of and the lift stopped so much that when I finally reached the top, it had taken 10 minutes and it really should have taken 4! Some people just aren’t fair. What would you have done if you weren’t allowed on the lift?

Hidden Valley Ski Trip

Hidden Valley Ski Trip by Claudia

Our Hidden Valley ski trip was a lot of fun. People who could ski got better and people who couldn’t ski learned how. I had a lot of fun learning how to glide and how to move. I had never skied before, so this was all very new to me. Ski school took me around an hour, having to spend about eight minutes in each station. I also had to spend an extra twenty minutes side-stepping up the mountain to show the staff I knew how move. Stopping was easy for me and I loved riding the magic carpet. I soon learned how to swerve and ride the rope tow. A couple falls here and there, but the rope ended up helping more than it hurt.
I reached the top of the hill. Looking down I could see the lines I stood in, and the people that I learned how to ski with. I could see the chair lifts and the big bulldozer used to move snow. I could see all of the stations at ski school, and I could see the lodge clear as day. Then I looked down the hill. It looked more like a mountain from where I was standing. The people at the bottom turned into ants, the bulldozer turned into a toy truck. Everything shrunk into tiny specks. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears. I waited. Eventually my feet tired and I felt like I was slipping. I leaned forward and let gravity take me to the ground. In an instant I was flying through the air! The wind hitting my face was a relief. I sped down the hill with my hands in the air. At the bottom I came to a quick stop, spraying snow at everything.
My friend asked “How was it?” I had one reply. “Let’s do that again.”

Ski Trip by Riley

Ski Trip

Hi i’m Riley and I went to hidden valley Ski resort along with every 5th grader in the district. Befor I got there I was worried and thought it was very hard but when i got on the slopes it was like a dream come true. infact I only fell down twice and those happened in line, let me tell you about them.
The first time I fell, I was in line for the beginners lift, i was in the back ow what i call the coloso-line and I saw a skier going down the 2nd hill with the rope tow he was blasting down the hill and did not slow down to get in line, He curved away and I thought he was going somewhere else But then I realised he was going towards a hill and I knew he was turning to get in line. I thought He would slow down but He didn't seem to know how to stop. In a split second He slammed into me with (What I thought was) The force of a semi and next thing I knew I was in the snow face first.

The second time I fell I was waiting in the line for the rope toe when Jack came up behind me and lightly shoved me in the direction of the sign.sliding backwards I had no Idea where I was going. I slammed into the sign and fell over.

Hidden Valley

This day was fun and not fun at the same time. Now you're probably wondering what do i mean. It was fun skiing but i did not have a green pass so i couldn't go on everything. I could only go on half hills. I learned that if you're good at ice skating or stopping in ice skating than you will be good at skiing because it is like the same thing. Therefore i was good at skiing because i'm good at ice skating. When it was lunch i was so sweaty. But that one soda and that was peace a pizza was so good. I felt like i earned that. Than after i was done i was back on the slopes. Do you like to ski?

PE: Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley by Tommy

Hidden Valley is the best place to go skiing or snowboarding. On Jan 15 2015 the fifth grade went to Hidden Valley to ski. (Although I would've wanted to snowboard.) So First we went to ski school witch had 7 staions like avoid the cones and stuff like that. Then if you finished early, you would get to ski freely. Then we went to lunch and went back to skiing. My favorite part was when I did ropetoe. Basically you get up to a rope and you start to grab it and once you have a good grip, you'll go up a mountain and then ski back down.
Would you like to ski?

me and the fifth graders of Glenridge elementary were taking a field trip to hidden valley.I was so exited.when we got there i threw my shoes on and ran to get my skies so fast i was the first one there.then i went to the stations along with 10 other people from glenridge or captain. The first station was how to get the skies on i blew past that and stations 2 3 and 4 because they were easy to me.then i did station five were you had to show you could go fast and stop and swerve threw cones.i past after 2 tries and before i knew it i was on the last station, station seven.it looked hard at first someone cast a spell on me and i past!so i was free to ski.
I first went to the little left that i was aloud to go on it was a new addition to hidden valley.I went up and up and finally got the top just to fall right on to my face.but i got up of course.I went down the hill sort of fast but something caught my eye on the way down i  saw a kid that had a pass the same as mine go up on a big hill to me at least and I asked him if he was allowed to go on it with the beginner pass he said yes!i was amazed so I went up it and I went 3 times as fast as the other hill and that was called the rope tow. After lunch I got a chance from my friends mom to stay longer and get a pass to go up on a way bigger hill of course I said yes i wanted to and in the end i had a great time.
Did you have a good time at the ski  trip?

PE: Hidden Valley Ski Trip

Hidden Valley Ski Trip
On Thursday, fifth grade went on a ski trip at Hidden Valley. After watching a safety video and getting our boots on, we went through ski school, which was seven stations such as learning how to get your skis on and off, side stepping up a hill and weaving through cones on the bunny slope.  After you got through ski school you were free to ski, but you could only go on the chairlift if you had a grey ticket. I went on one black diamond hill and it was really fun.Unfortunately the rope tow was not a highlight because kids would fall down and then they would be blocking you so you would have to get off.
Also there was a mini chairlift and it was really good for people to learn how to ride the chairlift because it wasn’t a hard hill and the chairlift went pretty slow. It was fun to see people learn how to ski and improve if they had skied before. I can definitely see how kids say this is the highlight of fifth grade.
What was your favorite part of skiing?

Yesterday we went skiing at Hidden valley. I thought It was awesome and I am pretty sure everybody else in 5B agrees with me. The only part I didn't like about it was getting the gear on and leaving.
Everybody was here by about 8:00 AM and we boarded the bus around 8:10 ish. It was a long bus ride. When we got to Hidden Valley we got our pass things then we watched a safety video. After the video was over we headed over to the rental place to get our skis and ski boots and put our stuff into the locker when I got my boots on my feet sweat was sweating sweat. We waited in a line to get our skis I was one of the last people. After that I went outside to the skiing place and stared the stations The 1st stations was explaining basic ski stuff and putting our skis on the 2nd was walking with skis the 3rd was side stepping up the hill with skis the 4th was braking 5th was waiting on the magic carpet that was so slooooooooooooooooooooooow. The 6th was a little slope that I skied on the whole time and the 7th was turning and than you could ski.

Hidden Valley
                   By Taayan
5th grade was going to hidden valley for the most epic field trip ever. We were going to leave at 8:15,reach there around 9. Then we were going to listen to the instructions and watch safety videos. After that,we were supposed to get our boots and skis. If necessary, rent a helmet. Then go outside and do the school stations. After you were done with all stations, you could free ski. Then you had to eat lunch at 11:30. After that you could free ski if you passed all the stations until it was time to leave.
When we got there,we did everything we were supposed to do. When I got to the stations,I looked around. A few people were done with the stations. Station 1 was how to put your skis on. I passed that with eas. Station 2 was duck walking. I passed that. Station 3 was sidestepping up a hill. I also passed that, but it was hard. Station 4 was pizza and french frie. Pizza was to slow down and french frie was to speed up. I also passed that. Station 5 was the magic carpet. It took you up a hill.It  was sooooo slow. I think everybody passed that. Then came station 6. You first had to go down a hill do a  pizza. THe come back up using the magic carpet and practice your turns. You were supposed to do sation 6 three times, but I passed it in 2 rounds. I finally reached the last station. I had to weave through the cones. I passed that with ease. Finally,I could free ski. It took me about 1 hour. I went up the beginner ski lift 2 times. Then I had lunch. After I had lunch,I went outside to free ski until we had to leave. It was awesome.

Hidden Valley Has It's Ups and Downs
by Sofi

We went to Hidden Valley on a field trip. It was so cool! Some ups on the trip were the training stations. Beside station 6, you usually got through the stations pretty quickly. You had to learn how to walk, how to walk up the hill sideways, learn how to learn, and how to stop. It was a fast process for most.
One other up was the hill. I'm pretty sure that going down that hill was the fastest that I have ever moved in my entire life. When I went down the hill once, I tried to go super fast, then stop really fast so that all the snow would fly up. I had done it before, so I tried. But, I stopped too much, and I slid about the second half the way down. I got up, dusted myself off, and Jean and I laughed so hard!
One other time that was fun was the station 7. I particularly like this station because it took a ton of concentration. I got it on my first try! You had to try and wind your way through the set of tightly pushed-together cones. It was downhill, and actually very hard because when you get to about the second cone, you start to rapidly gain speed. So you have to be very conscious of where you are. Many people didn't do it right, so they had to come all the way back up the hill. That part made me nervous.

There were some downs. One was the rope tow. Basically it's a big rope that pulls you up the hill. It makes your arms tired the next day. It was fun at first, but once you got to the top of the rope tow, you just see this huge body pile. If one person trips, everyone behind them trips. There isn't really a way to avoid the people that trip. Although, if you are an expert skier, then you can swerve around them and actually miss them rather than falling yourself.
Another bit of a downer was the ski lift. It spent more time stopped than actually moving! It was all because of people falling. They would fall off trying to get on! And people wouldn't get off at the end and they would come back down, or would fall at the end.
There was one more. Station 6. That was when you had to swerve through cones, but it wasn't a huge downhill incline. I for one did it perfect 4 times before she said that I was good to go. She would say this; "I'm so sorry I didn't see it, go do it again." She was so annoying!
All in all, Hidden Valley was pretty awesome. I wish it had lasted longer. I now know what I want to do for my birthday this year! ;D

Skiing at Hidden Valley
                By Neha

This week was are Hidden Valley ski trip. Since I had never skied before it was a whole new experience.First we loaded the bus and rode to Hidden Valley. Next week went through the rules and safety issues. After that we got skiing gear on such as coats, gloves, ski boots and ski pants. The next thing on the agenda was ski school. In ski school there were seven stations. At one you learned how to get your skies on and off and how to get up when you fall. Station two was how to walk with you skies on(walking like a duck as they call it at hidden valley). Station three was how to get up a hill or mountain(side stepping). Station four was how to stop when going downhill. Station five was ride the magic carpet which was a machine basically got you up a hill without sidestepping. Station six was learning how to turn. And finally station seven was turning but on a steeper hill. After ski school there free time. At noon was lunch. Lunch was pizza, carrots and a soda.
Free time included the rope tow and chair lift. The rope tow was awesome but people kept falling too often. The chair lift was fun but people kept falling off when they got off so the lift kept stopping.. After skiing we return are stuff and go back to school. So I ask you this, would you like to go to Hidden Valley?

HIDDEN VALLEY SKI TRIP BY KANE

Yesterday the fifth grade went to Hidden Valley. It was so fun. When we arrived we watched a safety video and got our lift tickets. Then we went into this stinky room and got our boots, skis, and helmets. when we got outside there was 7 stations on the first we put our skis on, on the second we learned how to get up, on the third we side stepped up a small hill. On the fourth we learned how to stop. On the fifth we skied down a tiny hill and went through cones. On the seventh we did the same thing. then we were free. I finished fast and since I had been skiing I got to go on the big ski lift. I did tons of fun hills and went really fast. Soon it was lunch time, and I got a pizza, carrots, and a soda. I ate in fast and continued skiing. At 1:00 PM the black diamonds opened. Black diamonds are really hard runs. since we had to leave at 1:45 I only had time to do it once, it was really fun but a bit icey. once I skidded on a slick part and fell but I got up and kept going. It was so fun. I was really disappointed when we left because it was so much fun. Have you ever skied?Yesterday the fifth grade went to Hidden Valley. It was so fun. Hidden valley was awesome.  I learned how to ski and how fun it was.  Though I did fall several times and it was kind of hard to get up.  Lots of people fell.  I didn't get to go on the big slopes because I didn't have a grey pass but some people did.  The big hills looked alot steeper than the one I did.  On the hill I did there was a chair lift up to the top of the hill.  Some people almost fell off the chair lift. When I did the chair lift I fell alot when I got off.  Other people did too so the chair lift had to stop every few minutes.

There were also stations we had to do before we could go ski on our own.  There were 7 of them.  The first station was simple.  We had to show them we could put our skies on.  At the second station we had to duck walk with our skies on.  At the third station we had to go sideways up a hill.  At the fourth station we had to do pizza and french fries with our skies down a little hill.  At the fifth station we had to go up the magic carpet up to a hill.  The sixth station was on that hill.  We had to do pizza and french fries while going down the hill again only the hill was steeper this time.  At station 7 there was cones and we had to ski through the cones.  Once we completed that station we were free to go.  The stations didn't take that long.  The whole trip was really fun.  Did you like hidden valley?

PE: Hidden Valley was Awesome and Had a Point

Hidden valley was awesome and had a point. by Chanel

Hidden valley was awesome because when ever you might fall and get hurt really bad the hidden valley paramedics comes and picks you up in the snow car and take you to a hidden valley doctor.
Hidden valley was awesome because when you didn't feel confident in your self to go on to the next one when you pass you could stay at the one you're at for the whole time!
Hidden valley was awesome because even if you have a gray pass you have to go throw the stations just so you know how it feels again.
Hidden valley is awesome because when you didn't pass and you get tired of it for your 5th time you can ask then you can move on if you feel combul than you can go on with your turning lessons.
Hidden valley is awesome because when you get finished with session 7 you can go down the hill theres so many choose. There is rope tow, ski left and the black diamond only if you had been before also the other big chair ski lift which u have had experience with.
The high of my day was getting like a hour of free choice by myself that was fun.
Hidden valley had a good point!!

PE: OMG SKI TRIP SOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME

Hidden Valley
                  By: Anette

Hidden Valley = Awesomeness period. It was so cool! First we went into the lodge and got our passes and watched the safety video, then we went into another building that had a semicircle roof and a bunch of gear like our ski boots and skis, and one down was that place smelled like feet! Ew. But it was really awesome after that. We had to go through ski school!! Station #1 taught us how to put on our ski, station #2-3 taught us the different walks,#4 was pizza and french fries (how to put your feet so you speed up or slow down), #5 was the magic carpet, a conveyor belt to carry us up to a small hill, #6 was to weave through some cones, and #7 was the same thing as six but with a much steeper hill. After that you were free to ski!!!!!!

My favorite thing about hidden valley was the slopes, steep enough so you go fast, but not steep enough so you basically FLY. In my opinion, the rope tow (a rope that you grab and it drags you up the hill) was really fun except when people fell and just lay there in the way. I went on the ski lift only once, because it was really slow. If any of you readers want to go to Hidden Valley, I would say YES GO TO HIDDEN VALLEY because it is so awesome and fun.
