Oak Knoll and Wydown Field Trip

Oak Knoll and Wydown
On May 6 we the fifth grade walked to Oak Knoll park.  At Oak Knoll, we ate lunch.  After we ate lunch we played on the field there.  At first most of us played tag but then some of us started to play soccer.  I had a blast!  It was really fun but there wasn’t that much space for soccer.  After we went to Oak Knoll we walked to Wydown.  I didn’t really like the walking part though.

Once we got to Wydown we got cards with colors and numbers on them.  I was in group number one and our cards were purple.  There were eighth graders who gave us a tour of the school.  Something I learned that I am really glad about is that there will be nachos every day.  We went all around the school.  We went near the gym, we went on the stage, and we went near most of the classrooms.  Once we were done with the tour we got Ted Drews.  Then we walked back to school.  Did you think the trip was fun?

100 Word Challenge: Jonah

Hi.  I am a spy.  I’m only 11 years old, but I am a spy.  And I am about to go on the greatest adventure of my life.  My mission was to go to the land of nowhere to go kill an army of trolls.  I was on a plane to the land of nowhere.  When we got there and got out of the plane I saw tons of trolls.  Oh no, I thought.  The troll army was already taking over the land of nowhere.  I pulled out my killer taser, aimed at all the trolls and they all died.

100 Word Challenge: Jonah

I was working outside.  I was shoveling the neighbors driveway that was covered with snow.  Suddenly out of nowhere a giant mutated green horse started running straight toward me.  I had never heard of such a thing.  It couldn't be real.  Monsters were not real.  Monster horses were not real either.  But it wasn't my imagination.  It was also a giant horse.  It was at least 200 feet tall.  It was more like 250 feet tall.  Quickly, I carefully got in the nearby sewer pipe and swam away.  It was disgusting.  Once I was out of the sewer I ran home screaming like a girl.

100 Word Challenge: Jonah

I felt so sick on this plane.  I felt like I would throw up.  Then I looked out the plane window to see a u.f.o.  I screamed at the top of my lungs.  "I knew it!", I shouted.  "There is a u.f.o out there.  Aliens are going to take over the world!"  I had watched hundreds of alien TV shows in my life and I knew that there were aliens in there.  But I soon realized I was wrong.  A door opened to the u.f.o.  Inside were pigs.  The pigs had wings on them.  They stepped out and flew.

PE: Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley
by Jonah

Hidden valley was awesome.  I learned how to ski and how fun it was.  Though I did fall several times and it was kind of hard to get up.  Lots of people fell.  I didn't get to go on the big slopes because I didn't have a grey pass but some people did.  The big hills looked alot steeper than the one I did.  On the hill I did there was a chair lift up to the top of the hill.  Some people almost fell off the chair lift. When I did the chair lift I fell alot when I got off.  Other people did too so the chair lift had to stop every few minutes.

There were also stations we had to do before we could go ski on our own.  There were 7 of them.  The first station was simple.  We had to show them we could put our skies on.  At the second station we had to duck walk with our skies on.  At the third station we had to go sideways up a hill.  At the fourth station we had to do pizza and french fries with our skies down a little hill.  At the fifth station we had to go up the magic carpet up to a hill.  The sixth station was on that hill.  We had to do pizza and french fries while going down the hill again only the hill was steeper this time.  At station 7 there was cones and we had to ski through the cones.  Once we completed that station we were free to go.  The stations didn't take that long.  The whole trip was really fun.  Did you like hidden valley?

OLW: Participate

 One little word by Jonah

Our class had to come up with words.  It was called one little word.  The word had to be a goal.  Some examples are participate, or think, or try.  Then we made one little word designs.  Some people made them on the computer using wordle or other stuff and some people drew it by making designs out of there word like making fireworks or other stuff by spelling out there word a ton of times to make the shape of something.

Then we had to make blog posts about our one little word like this one.  The one little words were fun.  We are going to try and achieve these one little word goals.

Literacy: Kate Klise

Kate Klise
               by Jonah
On Monday, December 16 Kate Klise came to visit us.  She is an author who has written lots of books.  In class we read dying to meet you.  It was very good and funny.  Kate Klise showed us many things.  She showed us a bunch of her books.  She even read one.  It was called Stand Straight Ella Kate.  It kind of sounds like it’s about her because the book is called Ella Kate and the author is named Kate Klise, but it’s not about her.

She told us about the circle plot for a story.  It is the main character first.  Then the problem.  Then the journey for a long time.  Then there is the aha moment.  Then the conclusion.  She also told us about her bad haircut story.  All her friends in class had gotten there hair done so for her birthday her dad took her to where he got a haircut and she got a boy haircut.  She was funny.  Did you like Kate Klise?

Claymo Lesson

Claymo Day
by Jonah

On Thursday we had claymo day.  It was double group so we had double the kids and double the leaders.  The first thing we did was say the claymo promise.  Then we talked about what service meant.  We read a book called Boxes For Katje.  We talked about what kind of service Rosie did for katje.

Then we explained that starting on Monday we would be doing a food drive for those in need.  We talked about what kinds of food we could bring in.  We made cards and posters until the lesson was over.  Then we cleaned up and went back to class.  How did your claymo lesson go?

Social Studies: Explorer Projects

Explorer projects
by Jonah
We worked on our explorer projects for the last few weeks.  We shared them on Wednesday.  We all had topics.  The topics were either explorers or explorer ships.  We all worked very hard.  We had to do a bunch of research.  Then we made them into projects.  We did google presentations, prezis, posters, and glogsters.  It was very cool.

We also had to cite our sources on easybib.  On project share day a bunch of people saw our projects.  Parents, 5th graders, 3rd graders, and our kindergarten buddies saw our projects.  We also got to see some of each others projects.  Some people dressed up like their explorers.  We also had to make explorer trading cards.  We drew pictures of our explorers and put information on them.  Did you think the explorer project was fun?

Blog Posts

Blog Posts
by Jonah
All throughout the school year we have been doing blog posts.  They are on all kinds of topics such speeches,  bluffs, secret words, African dance and many other cool topics.  It is fun to read them.  We can also comment on them.  If you did a blog post it is also fun to read all the comments you get.

We also have blog partners in the U.K.  It is cool to read about their blog posts.  When I read my buddies topic his topic was way different than ours.  So that’s pretty cool.  I also like their comments.  I am glad we do that.  Did you do any blog posts or comments?

Social Studies: Speeches

Speeches
For the past two weeks we have been doing speeches to inform.  They were about all kinds of things such as how to bake brownies, how to make salad, how to swing a baseball bat and stuff like that.  The were very fun and informative.  Someone even did how to make a candle out of an orange.  They weren’t all how to’s though.  One person did the dangers of smoking.  A few people taught us about different languages.
I learned so much.  I can’t wait to try some of these things I have been taught.  It was really cool.  I can’t wait to do mine.  I wish we could do two rounds of speeches.  It’s really fun.  And we got rewarded a lot of points.  I loved all the topics. Did you like the peoples speeches?

Social Studies: Pantomimes

Pantomimes
By Jonah
Over the past weeks we have been doing stepping stones.  They are things we do to earn points for our table groups.  One of the stepping stones was pantomimes.  Pantomimes are stories without words.  In other words charades.  We each picked an action we wanted to do and for each table group who guessed it right the person doing his/her pantomime earned 10 points for their table group.  The actions included ping pong, golf, driving a car, and other things. It was very fun!

Poetry: Apology

Apology Poem
By Jonah

I am doing an apology poem.  I am doing it because I thought that some of stuff I did to my bed was funny.  I really like it and I wanted to share it.

I am sorry bed
for sleeping on you
But I have nowhere else to sleep
I am sorry for lying on you to read
but where else was I supposed to read
I sorry for puking on you
but I could not make it to the bathroom in time
I’m sorry bed

African Dance

               African Dance
                by: jonah

All week we did African dance in PE.  Mr. Diadie came to teach us African dance.  It was really fun.  I can't even explain the steps.  It was really cool.  At the end of the week we performed for some of the parents.  We got up in the middle of the gym in groups of two and did it.  We tried not to mess up but sometimes we forgot some of the steps.  We learned some countries in Africa.

Did you like the African dance?
