Blogging Reunion

            Blogging Reunion by Manny

It turns out that this will not be my last blog that I will write because I Gmailed Mrs.Barnes and she said that it was perfectly fine! So that’s great! I have so many more ideas to share and thoughts to bring.
I’m so excited that I can do it and I’m going to make sure that ALL my ideas are down on the blog. That might be a little difficult, because I have so many, but who doesn’t love a challenge? So I’m going to keep blogging over this summer, and also do other things too, including reading, making this miniseries/movie called “Jelbom” with my good friends who live close by, and play outside, play tennis, etc. So this summer is going to action packed! What are you doing this summer?

A Typical Return Again - A Special by Manny

A Typical Return Again, A Special by Manny
I am Elsa, and I do NOT know where I am. This is crazy, okay, I just need to recollect myself, although what I did makes me filled with regret. I ran away during our tribute to Brad around the campfire.
“Okay, maybe God will light the way, and I’ll be whisked back home. Maybe I need to follow the Yellow Brick Road, wait dang it! I’m not in Oz.” Boy, was I angry! You know what, I’m just gonna run...to nowhere! I can’t believe I just did that. Yes, I killed Brad, but I have a certain feeling he’s back. I just don’t know why. It’s crazy, I know, but I just feel like I need to  go back. I just feel like I have to...Call me crazy, I don’t care, but I NEED to get back.
Suddenly, I remembered where I was. I was next to the yellowish brown house that we went to to fight the Acne’s. Don’t worry, we killed them all. Rapunzel did...with a frying pan! I also remembered where we started the trip and then we wounded up at this house. I don’t have a watch, but I think I remember. 1 hour straight to the right, then two hours north, then an hour left, and an hour left. I started to run. Why was I brain feeling so smart today? Don’t know why, but I knew that I needed to get back. Get back this second.

                       Part 2:
I was running all the directions until I saw a river streaming. “Yes, this is it! I’m here!” I ran to Rapunzel’s house and knocked on her door. When I heard footsteps, I beamed with joy.
“Who is it?” I heard. I wanted to joke around, so I said,”I’m Brad.”
“No, it can’t be Brad because he’s here.” Rapunzel opened the door, and she almost cried when she saw. We embraced, a long, very long, EXTREMELY long embrace. Wow, it felt good to be here again. “Wait, Brad’s here?” I asked. I looked behind her. What?, I thoiught. I wasn’t believing my eyes. I ran to him, and asked if he was fine and apologized a million times. He said he’s never been better. And then I felt a kiss on my cheek. A nice soft one.
“OOOOOHHHH,” I heard from other people. I looked behind him and there was Happy, and Goldilocks, and wait-
“Cinderella? What are you doing here?”
“I came to apologize for my horrible behavior on our mystery to find the Golden Apple. I want to make things right, and I’m sorry.” I came and embraced her, and I apologized too.
“Brad kissed Elsa, Brad kissed Elsa,” teased Happy. I shot him a look. Happy shoulders shrunk, and he was laughing. We all started to laugh.
“I’m so glad we’re back together again, I’m gonna stay here a little while.” Brad smiled, and we all hugged. I held back, because I had something for him. “Brad, I have a gift for you.” I smiled, and laughed. He laughed too and asked what it was. As he came closer, I said,”It’s this.” And I kissed him. On the lips. It was a little inappropriate in front of our friends, but I figured like it was time. I heard a chorus “OOOHHHHHH”, but I didn’t care. We must’ve been kissing too long, because Goldilocks said, “Okay, break it up.” As we let go, I started to cackle. And giggling. We all started to laugh, AGAIN, and it was a moment I remembered together.
And just like that, we were together again. Brad was fine, and I was able to be with them again. We’ve done so much together, and now we reunited. Once again. And I knew, that together, we’d be able to complete any journey. As long as we’re never apart.

Last Blog Entry by Manny

Last Blog by Manny
Leaving Glenridge sucks, I know. But we need new beginnings in our lives. And the beginning I had with blogging was a little obsessive, I know, but I really get to share my thoughts and opinions. It was great doing that. I only blog because I love it, and I LOVE writing.
It’s been an amazing year. A few teachers I want to give thanks to are Ms.Kelly from GCC, who’s always supporting me. Also, Mrs.Carson for being the funniest teacher I ever had. And Ms.Wickel too, for being a great reading teacher, and I know she’d be the one of the best 5th grade teachers ever! And lastly to you, Mrs.Barnes, for believing in my writing and myself with my school work. You’re the best.
Blogging has been amazing, and I’ve loved it so much. These are my last few sentences that I’m going to write. So I want them special. Thank you for 5B for being the best class ever! You what the B in 5B stands for...BEST! And we truly are, so I can’t wait to see you later on in middle school. See ya there!

Promotion Rehearsal

            Promotion Rehearsal by Manny
Promotion is on the 30th of May, which is tomorrow. I’m nervous, and not sure if I’ll cry...I really have no idea how it’s gonna be like. But I’m here to talk about the rehearsal. In the rehearsal, we practiced a lot of stuff. The certificate part, the standing up part, “I am a Small Part of the World” song, etc.
Well, first we practiced entering and knowing where we were going to sit. It was pretty fun to know where we were gonna be and stay for the whole hour. Also, we got to sing “I am a Small Part of the World”. I thought we sounded great and so in tune. It is a pretty song. Don’t you think so too? Anyways, we practiced getting the certificates. And we found out a little bit more about the Shaw Park picnic, but I wish the teachers could go too, I’m really upset about that. But overall the rehearsal was pretty good. I enjoyed practicing the welcome speech. That was fun. I can’t wait for tomorrow. It’ll be exciting!

Biography: Mrs. Barnes

         Biography 19: Mrs.Barnes by Manny
Mrs.Barnes is the best teacher that I have ever had in my life! She’s so kind and fair and not uptight. I wish I could stay in her class longer, but we all know Wydown is the next part of the journey for us. Well, Mrs.Barnes is amazing because you can talk to her about anything! Problems that you have, things you like, also things that you have in common with her. It’s been so cool having her as a teacher.
Mrs.Barnes has three children. Ian, Cooper, and Sophie. With the stories she’s told us all about them, they sound pretty unique. Mrs.Barnes is also into movies and TV and shows and games and music and all that stuff you’d think a student would know. Well, Mrs.Barnes knows all that too, which makes her stand out and makes her an amazing teacher.
Although we will leave Glenridge, I’ll still think of all the amazing teachers I’ve had. Especially you, Mrs.Barnes. You’re the best one yet. 5B loves you!

Int'l Book Release by Manny

International Book Release by Manny

I love Lea Michele from Glee, and she’s got bigger news! Her new memoir came out on the 20th of this month! I’m so excited because I’ve waited so long for this book, and it’s also about eating right and fitness too. So she mashed up all she could into the book. I looked at some reviews on websites to see what people thought about the book. And it turns out it was all positive! That’s great! Now I’m even more sure that I should read the book than when I first found out about it! Oops, I forgot to mention that it’s called Brunette Ambition.
Some cool facts about it are that at the beginning of every chapter is a quote by Barbra Streisand. Isn’t that interesting? Lea’s idol is Barbra Streisand so really, I’m not surprised. Also, Lea spills rumors about who she dated (gossip) and the first time she met Barbra Streisand. I think the book is gonna be great! I’m up for it! After promotion and the Shaw Park celebration, we’re going to go to Barnes and Noble and get the book. I just can’t wait!

My Favorite Book Series by Manny

My Favorite Series of Books by Manny

I enjoy reading series during IDR and at my house. You get to have a cool feel of the characters and how they grow from the beginning to the end. I love to read them and there are many different kinds, of course. Realistic fiction series, fantasy series, science fiction series, many kinds. So I’m going to share my 3 favorites.

3: Goosebumps. The author is R.L. Stine. I love Goosebumps even though you can’t really relate to the horror. I’ve read so many and loved every single one. I have so many memories from every single one. My favorites in the series would have to be Welcome to Dead House, Don’t Go to Sleep, Say Cheese and Die!, and Night of the Living Dummy. The series includes 62 books. There are different characters and different story plots in each one.

2: Matched. The author is Ally Condie. I love Matched because it had romance, and it was exciting and very thrilling. It was a trilogy, and my favorite in it was the first one: Matched. The genre is young adult, science fiction, and romance. The first book is one of my favorites EVER!!

1: Sammy Keyes. The author is Wendelin Van Draanen. I love Sammy Keyes so much! It’s the only reason why I LOVE mystery. I’m planning on reading more mystery because of this amazing series! My favorite characters are Sammy and Marissa, and my favorite books are Sammy Keyes and the Search for Snake Eyes and Sammy Keyes and the Skeleton Man. The series includes 18 books. All have mysteries.

Writing: A Typical Return, A Special by Manny

A Typical Return, A Special by Manny

I opened my eyes, and my head was lifted up from the ground by warm hands. I looked back and forth, left and right. Where was I? I saw a woman, and a man. They were communicating in what seemed like a different language. I think they were using sign language, or some type of code thing. I had no idea.
I looked to my right, and then down. Laying right before my eyes was a cup of water. I drank a little, and it tasted refreshing. I relaxed, and out my hand on my chest, and I felt a long bandage of some sort. All I remember was being struck by an ice blade. Someone with blonde hair, blue eyes, medium height...Elsa! I got up to leave, when the woman set her hand on my arm, and motioned toward the cup of water, then she put her hand to her mouth and tipped her head back. I suddenly realized what she meant, she meant to drink water. So, I bent down to drink the water, because I needed some strength and hydration.
“Sorry, she’s mute. I thought you should know, you’ve been out for two days. Once we found you in the hot big room, we took care of you ever since. We’ve bandaged you, taken care of you, kept you warm in the nights, and all that stuff to keep you alive.” He smiled at me. Man, were they kind!
“I have to get going, to the magical part of the forest. Over there are my friends.” I was eager, that I sputtered my words out quickly and didn’t understand what I was saying. Surprisingly, he did. “It’s about 15 minutes west from where you are sitting, so just go straight to your left and you’ll be there.” He smiled again. I said bye and to both of them and headed off to my right. I ran like I was running away from a portal that would suck me in to make me see all the things I hate. I ran like I was running from the scariest monster ever trying to strangle me to death. I ran like I was running from all the voices in my head saying “Tall Weirdo” and “Idiot”. I ran like I was running to a light that would lead me to my friends. I was. And I was close.
When I got there, I looked to the river just further ahead. I took in the scent of all the trees and houses. I was back here. I was in the place I loved. I ran up to Rapunzel’s house and knocked on the door. She opened it and her mouth dropped open. “Am I seeing correctly?” she said. I nodded, and said,”It’s me. Brad.” She quickly embraced me, for what seemed like forever. After the Forever Hug, I looked back behind her and at the kitchen and kitchen table. “Where’s Elsa?” I asked. Rapunzel cringed, and said “Oh no” over and over again.
“Where’s Elsa?” I repeated, but I said it calmly.
Rapunzel took a deep breath and finally said,”Elsa…ran away.”

Book Review: Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief

Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief by Manny
I loved this book so much! It’s called Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief and let me tell you that I very much enjoyed this first book in the series. It let me get an idea of how everything started. Two characters hatred for each other, how sammy ended up in the Senior Highrise, and all that stuff. I was excited to read it because it sounded good, and WAS good. It was fun reading it. Now, I’ll tell you what it’s all about.
Well, Sammy lives with her grandmother in the Senior Highrise, because her mom went off to Hollywood to fulfill her dreams of becoming an actress. And that’s not Sammy’s only problem. She meets a rotten redhead named Heather who constantly bullies and taunts her. And Sammy saw a man digging into a purse and pulling $3,000 out of it from the Heavenly Hotel right next to a window! And he was dressed up as a thief. So, the book is Sammy’s adventurous journey to find the thief. And let me tell you, the book is great and you really should read it.

100 Word Challenge: Manny

100 Word Challenge by Manny
It sounded like a foreign language to me, when Sammy Keyes said that I was Marissa McKenze, her best friend in the series. It was weird, and I felt weird, and Grams must’ve felt weird because she ended up saying,”Now, what are you doing here, Marissa? I thought you were doing homework?” Wait, what? I just decided to go along with it and said,”Oh yeah, but I finished.”
“That quickly?” Grams asked. I felt like I needed to get out of there quickly. I dove to the bathroom, and that’s where I saw a giant portal. I jumped through it.
“Hermione, I need you.” I looked, it was Harry Potter. I was Hermione. A girl again?

To This Day by Manny

                    To This Day by Manny
During social studies, we watched a very inspiring video called “To This Day”, which is mainly about bullying and him and how it all started. The author is named Shane Koyczak. It started off with him talking about how he thought pork chops and karate chops were the same thing. Then it started to get serious. So serious I cried!
It was about bullying and it was really depressing. The video was amazing, but it reminded me when I was teased in the first and second grade. And the mean words some people called me this year. Anyways, my favorite and most depressing oart of the video for me was when he said that he’d stay inside for recess, because out there was a place to stand there and get bullied, and to rehearse running from the bullies.
I loved the video, even though it was sad. I think everyone should see the video. I even tried to show my mom the video, but she wouldn’t budge.

100 Word Challenge: Manny

            100 Word Challenge by Manny
I saw men eying a bee nearby and I wondered why the world was so weird. Maybe cause I was weird.
I was walking home from school, thinking about middle school. Man, this is gonna be tough, being at middle school. I sure hope I'll do well and have fun there, but the homework will be frustrating. Now, I just can't believe that I'm going to grow up and be more responsible. Maybe I'm just not ready.
Then when I got home, I thought about the good things about it. Maybe it wouldn't be bad.

My Favorite Genres

My Favorite Genres in Books by Manny
I’m here right now to share some of my favorite genres in books and reading. I love to read! Fantasy, realistic fiction, poetry, anything! Except historical fiction. But I love to read, and in this next paragraph, I’m gonna share my favorite genres.
Well first, I love realistic fiction! For a long while, it was all I read. StarGirl, Jake and Lily, and a lot of others! I like realistic fiction because it’s really cool how you can relate to the characters in life situations. The next genre is adventure. Some books in the adventure genre I’ve read are Warriors, Geronimo Stilton, and last but not least The Land of Stories; The Wishing Spell. I’m not a fan of survival adventure, but I like it to have a little sports in it. I like adventure because it’s always exciting and urges you onward in the book. The last genre I’m going to share with you is mystery. I love mystery! It really pushes you to read more, like in adventure. Some mystery novels I’ve read include the A to Z Mysteries, and Sammy Keyes. I like mystery because you feel like you can predict and have a feeling of who stole what, or who did this or that.
Well, those are my favorite genres in books. I love these all, and I’ll always take time to read them.

Book Review: Sammy Keyes And the Hotel Thief

The Anticipated Book #6 by Manny
As you all know, I heart Sammy Keyes. I love everything about it, but I just have one problem: I haven’t read the first book! BingBing decided to read it, and Mya got it as an ASK book from the library. And because of that, I had to start at book #2. Now I’m on #4, Sammy Keyes and the Runaway Elf. But I have heard that this is the most popular and successful in the whole series, so of course I’ll give it a shot! Also, this won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Children’s Mystery!
The book is about Sammy and how she saw a man look into her a woman’s purse and find 3,000 bucks! Apparently he sees her, which is pretty scary! I’m not sure the rest of the story, but I’m really sure it’ll be a great Sammy Keyes. Have you read this book?

Cardinals' Performance

Cardinals Performance by Manny

On the 25th of April, our Glenridge chorus performed at the Cardinals game. We sang “The National Anthem”, and nailed it! The crowd applauded so much, and I was so happy with it. It was sad because it was my second and last year doing it, but I had a great time, and I’ll remember the experience for a long while.
The game was good, and I had my friends with me, which was good. I couldn’t wait to see if the Cardinals would get further ahead than 1-0, but no. I guessed wrong, but watching it was fun. I stayed till the 6th inning, and through that I kept thinking of our amazing performance. I’m so proud of all of us, and we did amazing. Were you at the baseball game?

100 Word Challenge: Manny

100 Word Challenge by Manny

I awakened from my slumber, but I wasn’t in my house. I was inside Sammy Keyes’ house. I loved reading Sammy Keyes, and I could tell that Sammy was Sammy because she was called that by Grams and Sammy called Grams Grams. Not confusing at all. I don’t think they’d notice me, but I was hungry, so decided to go to the kitchen and eat some food. And when I opened the cupboard, they turned towards me. And Sammy said something I hadn’t expected ever. She said, “Marissa, I’m so glad you’re here!” She came and gave me a hug.
Wait, Marissa? Marissa McKenze? I went to the bathroom and looked into the mirror. I looked into the mirror. It’s true.

The Anticipated Book #5

The Anticipated Book #5 by Manny

I love Sammy Keyes! I love it I love it I love it I love it and I love it! I am on the third book in the series, and that is Sammy Keyes and the Sisters of Mercy. It’s a good book, but the book I really want to read next is Sammy Keyes and the Runaway Elf. I’m so glad I’m almost on that book because the book I really want to read is the fourth and I’m on the third! The book sounds so good! I cannot wait till I get to read it! Now, I’ll tell you all about the book.
Well, it’s around Christmas time in Santa Martina and Sammy goes to the Christmas Parade. But then these pranksters ruin it by throwing dog’s on Sammy’s float. They fly in all different directions, and Sammy has to find them. Then all of sudden, she gets blackmailed. She has to solve what everything’s going on, or else she’s going to have a lot trouble in the future.
I can’t wait to read this book, and I hope it’s really good. Because that’s how the book sounds.

Spring Concert

Spring Concert by Manny

On Thursday of the 24th, the school chorus got to perform our concert to the parents and a few siblings! I had a great time performing and I loved it! I thought that we all did exceptionally well and we should be proud. It was only 5 songs, but it was nerve-racking! I had to face singing a very fun song in Spanish, and someone singing next to me being very loud! It was difficult going through those hard things, and I just can’t believe it was our last concert!
I had a great amount of fun and excitement performing “Cantar!”, “Why We Sing”, “Seize the Day”, “Joy in My Heart”, and last but not least “Sing With Jubilation.” I loved all the songs, some were fun while some were very serious. It was a nice mix of great songs. And I loved performing! Did you come or perform?

My Curiosity Project

My Curiosity Project by Manny
I have finally decided to do Google Presentation for my curiosity project. It didn’t take a lot of thinking, I just decided an iMovie would be too hard so I picked something interesting and fun. I think a Google Presentation would be easy, yet very planned out so I could my research down in an organized way.
I started working on it on Thursday the 24th. It was very fun because I got to work on it a little bit and I have a lot of time before we have to present it to friends and the class. I had a great amount of work time on our last genius hour and I’m confident I’ll do well. What format are you doing for your curiosity project?

Book Review: Sammy Keyes and the Skeleton Man

Sammy Keyes and the Skeleton Man by Manny
I am a huge fan of Sammy Keyes and Wendelin Van Draanen. This was a very satisfying book to read, and I’m sure you’d enjoy the mystery and humor. This was my first official book that I completed for the “Reading Like a Fan” unit, so I got one down and a million to go! Now, I’ll tell you all about this spooky yet fascinating story.
Well, Sammy returns from her previous mystery to solve another one. While Sammy’s trick or treating with her friends Marissa and Dot, they find a man tied to a chair in a frankenstein costume and his head is twisted halfway! And he might even be dead! When the dude waked up, Sammy and her two friends ask what happened. The man says that this guy in a skeleton costume barged into his house, stole a few things, and threw him against a wall! How scared and hurt would you feel? So Sammy’s off to solving another mystery, but the Skeleton Man may be closer to her than she thinks…
You’ll love this suspenseful book that you can relate to. Other than the hardcore mystery this book brings to the table, Sammy gets teased and has to find ways to deal with it. Her character is believable, and is someone you’d probably want to be!
