This is we're we sing and have fun and get ready for plays. The play that we are doing now is called the 100 year snooze. Are teacher in music is the most awesome mrs.willams. Mrs Williams is a great teacher because we joke around, but in a serious way and we also sing are hearts out.

Once we did the Halloween music sound track and she let us dance! Usually she lets us dance and she also dances to, she is good. The Halloween sound track included, purple people eaters, thriller, little shop of horrors and witch doctor.

The 5th Grade Musical
    The fifth grade is doing a musical called The 100 Year Snooze. It seems pretty boring but it's really not, it's FULL of drama. Our singing auditions are on Monday September, 14.

    All fifth graders will have a chance to get into it and if they don't they will be in the chorus. This musical is basically Sleeping Beauty but it is toned down for younger kids. This musical will be performed twice, once during school for the kids and teachers and once after school for the adults and some of the teachers.

The Glenridge fifth grade is putting on a play, and the auditions are in the music room

courtesy of Mrs Williams. The fifth graders have a vocal audition and a memorization audition. The vocal auditions are for singing, and what you do in the vocal audition is you sing a small part from a song in the play. In the memorization audition you memorize a paragraph from a packet that the fifth graders have already gotten.

This is a fun way to practice music and drama because Glenridge does not have a drama club/class. The fifth graders are going to work very hard for this play to happen for you and Glenridge.

Yesterday (May 19th, 2015), the Fourth graders, fifth graders, Vibravo, and Chamber, all played in one concert.  I play in Vibravo, the extracurricular middle school orchestra.  I am a 5th chair first violinist, the best elementary violinist in Vibravo.  

    Vibravo played 3 songs, Wood Splitter Fanfare (Tommy Lana, Lulu, Jai, Larry, and I are playing this for promotion.  It’s a fun piece.  The second song we played is called Concert Piece for Strings.  Yeah, they HAD to give it such a bad name.  I didn’t really like this song as much, but it was good.  The next song, Stairway to Heaven, was composed in 1971.  It’s an old rock on, and I didn’t really like it; it was alright, I guess.

In music we are doing Halloween songs. But not just any Halloween songs the good ones. Like This Is Halloween, The Adams family theme song, Witch doctor, Purple people eater, Little Shop of Horrors, and best of all the Thriller by Michael Jackson. It is fun to sing along with everyone else. Your voice blends in perfectly with everyone elses. Melody and Harmony. Thanks to our awesome music teacher...Mrs. Williams we all have fun.

    It is a fun learning experience for somebody to sing to some fun creepy songs. You feel the music in you as your mouth makes the melodic words and they flow out of you with ease. What is your favorite Halloween song?

    On Friday afternoon when it was the end of school our teachers walked us downstairs as a class. As we approached the list on the door to the music room, everyone who auditioned was holding their breath, checking to see if they got the part they wanted.

A lot of mixed emotions were going around that day. Some happy faces, some not so happy. But, even if you got into the play, what you will always remember is getting up to audition in music class. Most people were really nervous and didn’t want to do it but they did it anyway.

    Wednesday during music, 5B's class did their singing auditions but not our official auditions but anyway, they were for our play, Pinnochio. not a lot of people auditioned but they were really good.

This Wednesday what we did was sing in music for auditions.All the kids did amazing.We all didn't do it but. I enjoyed listening to my peers it was really fun.To see what kind of voices my class mates had!The reason why we auditioned is because we have a Pinocchio  play coming up soon.   We had to practice so our teacher Mrs.Williams could hear how we sound.

5th Grade Play

    With the help of Ms. Williams and all the fifth grade teachers, we are putting together the play, Pinocchio. Everyone who wants to have a singing/acting part in the play had to audition. This happened on Wednesday, September 10.

    Mrs. Williams would call everybody who wanted to audition up to the piano one by one to individually sing part of a song called "Tomorrow" with their back to the rest of the class. Everybody who auditioned was very brave to get up in front of the whole class and sing. No matter how embarrassed everyone was, we all did a great job. Good luck, everyone! 

Cardinals' Performance

    On the 25th of April, our Glenridge chorus performed at the Cardinals game. We sang “The National Anthem”, and nailed it! The crowd applauded so much, and I was so happy with it. It was sad because it was my second and last year doing it, but I had a great time, and I’ll remember the experience for a long while.

    The game was good, and I had my friends with me, which was good. I couldn’t wait to see if the Cardinals would get further ahead than 1-0, but no. I guessed wrong, but watching it was fun. I stayed till the 6th inning, and through that I kept thinking of our amazing performance. I’m so proud of all of us, and we did amazing. Were you at the baseball game?

Spring Concert

    On Thursday of the 24th, the school chorus got to perform our concert to the parents and a few siblings! I had a great time performing and I loved it! I thought that we all did exceptionally well and we should be proud. It was only 5 songs, but it was nerve-racking! I had to face singing a very fun song in Spanish, and someone singing next to me being very loud! It was difficult going through those hard things, and I just can’t believe it was our last concert!

    I had a great amount of fun and excitement performing “Cantar!”, “Why We Sing”, “Seize the Day”, “Joy in My Heart”, and last but not least “Sing With Jubilation.” I loved all the songs, some were fun while some were very serious. It was a nice mix of great songs. And I loved performing! Did you come or perform?

On the 18th of April, we had very experienced flute players come in and talk to us about the different instruments just like the flute. They even played for us little bit. Like the Pink Panther theme song!

    I thought they were very talented, and they showed us all the flute playing instruments, and we learned about the pitch of some. We even got to predict if the instrument was going to sound higher or lower. You have to really learn your flutes to do that!

    I thought that the flute players that came in were amazing! They are even in a flute choir! It was exciting hearing them play because they were so skilled at it, that it made it more entertaining watching them play the flute. I had a very good experience when they came in!

Popular Broadway Songs

    Broadway musicals, of course, have songs because they are musicals. They hold many stories many adventures, just in a song! And right now, I’m going to tell you a few popular Broadway songs!

    Well, the first one I have to mention is “On My Own” from Les Miserables. It’s a soing about love, and other stuff like that. It’s a vocally big song song, so it would take someone like Idina Menzel or Lea Michele to pull it off. The next one is “Popular” from the Tony Award winning musical, Wicked. It’s about beauty and not being popular, but being happy with yourself. It’s a funny song, trust me! When I watched the video, at funny parts in the song, the crowd laughed! And the final song is “People” from Funny Girl, the musical I want to see. I’m not sure what the song is about, but I do know that it was very popular and a lot of critics knew of.

    Those are only some of the popular Broadway songs, of course. But, I love doing these popular Broadway blogs, just to inform you about some of the popular stuff in Broadway. I hope you got a lot of info from this!

Song Writing Again by Manny

  

 Everyone knows I was a songwriter, and I stopped making songs for a while, but by the second of April, I started making some more. Instead of making music for myself, I’m gonna make songs for my friend Eva! It’s so exciting, I even gave her a stage name! It’s called Goddess, as you may have hinted, I got the idea from Lorde!

    I love songwriting, and it’s one of my epic hobbies. Music is such an amazing thing to experiment with and do. That’s exactly why I love songwriting, it’s a thing to experiment with. And a fun thing too! It makes me love music even more! Songwriting is fun, exciting, and great to do. I hope you get influenced to try it sometime.

    Cannonball is a fantastic song by Lea Michele that inspires me in many ways. Yes, yes, I know it’s awkward writing a blog about a song, but, I have my reasons. It’s a very nice song about loss and moving on. Most likely, she wrote it about her dead boyfriend, Cory Monteith.

    Well, Cannonball was written very well and I thought that Lea Michele is the best singer on Earth! I mean, she’s great! Anyways, this song inspires me to move on when bad things happen. Music, is always set to inspire and influence people in a good way. And I think Cannonball does for me.

    I love to listen to music, especially Lea Michele. She is kid friendly, and amazing. She can write other songs that inspire me. I know she can and she has. Especially with this song. Music can always change people in a good way. I think Cannonball has for me.

   

Swing Dancing Video

    On the last day of February, we watched this video about Frankie Manning. He was a very famous African-American swing dancer. Back then in the 1930s and 40s, swing dancing was a way for a life's passion for some people. Some people made a living about it. The other name for it the Lindy Hop.
    The video was very fun to watch. WE all had a knowledge for swing dancing back then once it was all finished. When we finished watching it, I was very happy to see the life of Frankie Manning and how successful he was. On one of his late birthdays, he would dance with 85 girls on his 85th birthday. Frankie danced and had idols, and look where it got him:One of the best swing dancers in the world. The video was inspirational, and we all loved it. Frankie Manning is a great person. I'm glad we watched the video.

    The Fifth grade musical is coming up!
All the fifth graders tried out for parts in the musical but only some got in. We got to chose a monologue to memorize. both of them were from Charlie brown. We also got to sing part of a song from the Play book.
     Before we did all of that though we had to actually chose a play. All of the three classes chose between Pinocchio and princess and the pea. We got to listen to the songs and hear the dialogue. And the vote went to... Princess and the pea! We got our parts and started to practice. Now February 24, 2014 the day before the play, we're ready!

    The 5th grade play we did was Princess and the Pea. I enjoyed that we did that play for the annual 5th grade play. I supported the idea from the beginning. We’ve worked really hard on memorizing lyrics and the actors worked hard memorizing lines, and lyrics too. Some of them had solos.

    Anyways, the play went well. I was very happy with our performance. There were some mis haves with the sound and such. But the actors and actresses handled it well. I was nervous even just to perform! I was in the chorus, so I only got to sing 4 songs. But we did them successfully, which is always great. My favorite character in the play was Gillian. The character of Hannah was too shy. Not Abby, but the character she played. By the way, the songs and solos were great. I enjoyed doing the play. Did you like doing the play?
