STEM Day - Math

Math by Robert

Our class went to the high school to celebrate STEM day on may 6th 2016 and one of the stations was math. The math station was walking the same as a bar graph. Now I know this sounds easy but it’s not because a motion  sensor picks up exactly how fast you move. That means if you step unevenly then it will pick that up and therefore mess it up.

Then there was tower building. The first part was using wood blocks to create whatever your instructions said to create. We created a chair, house and bench. The second part was creating a cube If both groups finished then the instructor told the two groups to create a rectangular prism (we failed).

Would you like the math station?

The  Rescue
By Robert

The lightbulb popped and in a flash the building was lit flames roared and the lady ran away from the air stealing fire. She cradled the baby as the fire was burning her apartment. The bat winged firemen flew to the rescue and one of them took the baby to the crowd of people watching this horrid event. The lady screamed in panic and swiftly they set the red trampoline. The five firemen threw her to the trampoline and she hit the trampoline head first.

She flew in the air with a parachute and landed safely.

Hidden Valley Ski Trip

The Hidden Valley ski trip
                 by Robert

The hidden valley ski trip required perseverance  and resilience. Almost everyone fell and we all got up. The ski school was especially frustrating and in 45 minutes I was only at station 5. The lunch was only a pizza and a soda. The stations were especially frustrating and I wove through the station 7 instructor and I hit the sign with my hand.

The rope tow had to stop a few times because the people didn’t get out of the way. The ski lift had no safety bar so you held on for dear life. They gave you a tiny lunch so you were starving when you got on the bus. But it was really fun so i’m not complaining. Do you love skiing?

One Little Word by Robert

           OLW
By Robert

I chose peace because there are so many peaceful moments I think that a lot of people like me miss the peaceful moments.I’ve never taken time to think about what peace really means and I think it’s time to discover that the meaning of peace to me.Reading is one of my hobbies and I feel at peace when I read. I think that what peace means to me is silence.

I enjoy many other activities that require peace. I have not thought about peace in a long time.I’d never thought about peace very hard. I believe that the peaceful times that you experience help you stock up for when the hard times come. I never was very encouraged to earn peace loops but I was jealous of the people who got peace loops

Stop and drop your weapons a automated voice boomed in  the men attacking yelled never! Then they charged and quickly a light slammed into them. Bones flew everywhere and the last men fled. Two men retreated to the dessert and the chopped more wood. Another storm hit and the men were never seen again.

Claymo by Robert

Claymo
By Robert
It is going well being a Claymo leader.I’ve learned that I am a fearless speaker and patient. My students are well behaved and rarely get off task and it is easy to keep them controlled.

What is challenging about being Claymo leader is to have confidence in my decisions. What is also challenging is to not read every word on the sheet during the lesson.

I ensured that my whole group understood the big idea by asking questions and making sure people were listening.

Some of my goals include not reading the whole lesson out loud for three Claymo lessons and don’t hesitate to call on somebody.

100 WC: Robert

   The explorers

How could something so tiny hurt so much? The forest rustled with mosquitos as the explorer hurried to find shelter.I don’t want to get malaria a explorer complained.Too bad the leader said. We have to find something! They walked on.

By noon half of explorers were dead or sick. What can we do? I don’t know maybe we could leave them behind? One of them said. We will leave them behind the leader announced.

Suddenly he fell to the ground.I leave my leadership to Jack he gasped and then died. Let’s go Jack said. They packed up and left. They went through the African forest and found their way out.

The Evil Skeleton: by Robert
The skeleton was stuck in the mountain. The evil skeleton called rise my minions! Skeletons everywhere rose. The skeletons scraped at the mountain freeing their master. The army rose to take revenge on the living. The skeletons marched toward the football stadium. Some of them used to be warriors so some of them took a shield out. They rammed through the wall creating a tunnel. They then charged at the the football. Watch out the fans screamed. The skeletons leader kicked the ball from the eighty yard line. The fans watched as the punt went into the field goal. The skeletons collapsed on the field. The fans yelled way to go!

The Last Ski Trip by Robert

The Last Ski Trip By Robert

The snowy ground shook as I thundered  through. The cool colorado spring felt nice.My skis dented the snow.A little after I flew downhill.

whisk!zoom!I was skiing downhill.I was flying down.I enjoyed the view of keystones snowy ground as I went down. The  freedom of the spring break felt nice.

The hill that I was skiing on was snowy white. The snow glistened under the cool spring sun.The snow dented as the skis rushed down.I enjoyed the snow as I went.Rainbow stop!I called.

back down I went.I hoped I didn’t have to  walk with my skis pointing outward and the back of the skis pointing inward down the flat part.Luckily I had enough speed so I passed the flat part.I went up a side of a hill and back down.I was sweating under the sun.Poof! snow rushed up to meet my face.

I got up and skied the bumpy hill.Shoot I thought I’m going to hit a tree!I barely missed the tree and face planted in the snow.ouch I thought I wouldn’t ski that again.Because I couldn’t.

Dang I thought what can I do?Well I thought there is nothing I can do.I snapped back to reality and climbed up.I skied to what they called the tornado. It was a circle with barricades not all the way around but in a semi circle with a entrance.

I skied around and got out.I shouted rainbow stop!I got to skiing. The first bridge was nearing!A little after I crossed the bridge!

A while later I saw the bridge to town.It was way out in the distance. But still I could see it!I was excited & sad that the ski trip was finally over!I rushed down to the bridge. The bridge was big wooden bridge.A little after I crossed the bridge.I loved Colorado but I knew that Colorado wasn’t where I belonged. 1 hour later I was sitting on the plane wishing that I could ski forever.

100 word challenge: Robert

She just wouldn’t stop crying. Crack! The bicycle toppled on her. Her left leg was laid on the ground useless. She tried to get up, she discovered that her left leg was broken.

Horror flooded through her as she tried to lift the bike off of her.  She screamed help me!  No one answered her calls.  What can I do?  she thought.

She decided to try scooting home.  She tried but she was already tired.  She called hello anyone here?  She heard sirens.  Maybe they are coming for me she thought.

She remembered she had have a cell phone Yes!

Claymo: Steal the Ball

  Claymo:  Steal The Ball
By: Ethan, Claudia, Robert

The Glenridge fifth grade class of 2023 went to Tilles park on a Claymo retreat on August 27 2015. We went on this trip to help us build team work, confidence, and leadership skills. We did a lot of activities one of our favorites was a game called Steal The Ball. In this game you have to run around and take balls out of peoples hula hoops, but while your gone people can take balls out of your hula hoop. The person with the most balls at the end of the game wins. We had alot of fun at this retreat but we loved Steal The Ball.
