Book Review: Out of My Mind

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to not be able to talk or move? Both? That is Melody Brooks. She can't talk and move. She is in a wheel chair. When you look at her you  would see a handicapped person but she really is the best and smartest girl in her school. This book is for every kind of reader big and small with a fascinating plot and memorable characters. This book shows lots of social justice issues in racism, bullying, and judgment.
 In this book, melody is the smartest kid in America but she has a major problem. She is disabled with cerebral parlays. She joins the whiz kids group and starts a whole new life. How would you feel to be trapped inside your words??

The title of the book is : Out of my mind. Social Justice Issues... I recommend this 2 u!

All throughout the school year we have been doing blog posts.  They are on all kinds of topics such speeches,  bluffs, secret words, African dance and many other cool topics.  It is fun to read them.  We can also comment on them.  If you did a blog post it is also fun to read all the comments you get.

We also have blog partners in the U.K.  It is cool to read about their blog posts.  When I read my buddies topic his topic was way different than ours.  So that’s pretty cool.  I also like their comments.  I am glad we do that.  Did you do any blog posts or comments?

Book Review: Crash

    Today we finished our read aloud book, Crash by Jerry Spinelli. We were reading this book because of our social justice issue in reading. I really liked this book, If I were to rate it I would give it 3 ½ out of 5 stars.  

    This book was about a kid named Crash Coogan(real name John) Entering 7th grade, He and his friend pick on a kid named Penn. Penn is who is thin and good at school and Crash is a big football player. But things soon start to change.

Book Review:  The Lord of the Rings

    I read this awesome book called “The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the ring”.  Its about this now “man” hobbit named Frodo, a type of creature, that finds himself in trouble when he gets this ring he must destroy.  The ring can only be destroyed by being thrown into a volcano in a dangerous land.  Sounds easy, but the ring has its own things…(no electronics, sort of like vikings and medieval times) (also Fantasy).......................

WARNING!  If you don’t like a hole 50-100 pages of explaining the plot and setting, this WILL be a book not for you!

They meet 9 other dwarves, elves, and humans, to go into Mordor.  It’s the first book of three.  I strongly recommend the book!  And the next 2!

Social Studies: Speeches

Speeches

For the past two weeks we have been doing speeches to inform.  They were about all kinds of things such as how to bake brownies, how to make salad, how to swing a baseball bat and stuff like that.  The were very fun and informative.  Someone even did how to make a candle out of an orange.  They weren’t all how to’s though.  One person did the dangers of smoking.  A few people taught us about different languages.  

I learned so much.  I can’t wait to try some of these things I have been taught.  It was really cool.  I can’t wait to do mine.  I wish we could do two rounds of speeches.  It’s really fun.  And we got rewarded a lot of points.  I loved all the topics. Did you like the peoples speeches?

Catching Fire By: Suzanne Collins

This book is the sequel to The Hunger Games and just as good possibly better than the first book it has an amazing plot and its the kind of book you will read a million times  and not get sick of.

It is about Katniss, now a victor and the struggles she has against the evil Capitol and how they get new Peace Keepers which are the people who punish the districts by whipping them and other forms of torture.

This book is mostly about good and evil.  What's another book about good and evil?

Social Studies: Secret Word

Stepping stone number three in socil studies is secret word.Its really fun.You get a word and you have to hide it in a speech.It is 10 points for guessing it correctly and 20 points for tricking other table groups.

Everyone in the class gets a turn at hiding the secret word.Sometimes it is obvious and sometimes not.Sometimes it is they make it to trick you into tricking you it is the word but it is not.It is the second to last secret word.
